Clinical Fellowship (CF)
Please note that CF information may vary state to state. We encourage students to confirm CF information from the ASHA website according to their state of practice.
General Information:
After the acquisition of the knowledge and skills needed to successfully complete this program, the graduate will be ready to enter the supervised clinical fellowship (CF) experience, which is required for application for the ASHA-CCC (Certificate of Clinical Competence). The CF experience is usually a 9-month period of supervised full-time employment (35 hours/week for 36 weeks totaling 1,260 hours). Part-time work can be completed, as long as the clinical fellow works more than 5 hours per week. Working more than 35 hours per week will not shorten the minimum requirement of 36 weeks. This is required for CCC-SLP issued by ASHA (referred to as a clinical fellowship) and The Division of Consumer Affairs (referred to as a clinical internship).

The CF must have been completed under the mentorship of an individual who held the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) throughout the duration of the fellowship. The Clinical Fellow must have received ongoing mentoring and formal evaluations by the CF mentor.

In addition, upon completion of the CF, the applicant must have demonstrated the ability to perform clinical activities accurately, consistently, and independently and to seek guidance as necessary. The CF mentor must submit the Clinical Fellowship Report and Rating Form, which includes the Clinical Fellowship Skills Inventory (CFSI), as soon as the CF successfully completes the CF experience. This report must be signed by both the Clinical Fellow and mentoring SLP.

A Summary...
As You Prepare to Obtain Your CCC-SLP, Follow These (3) Steps:
At the end of your Masters program, have the Certification Application Verification Form completed by your Program Coordinator/Director (see Graduation Procedures). This is the last page of your Application for Certification (CCC-SLP application from ASHA). This form documents that you've successfully completed the academic and supervised clinical practicum aspects of your training, meeting or exceeding all levels of competency.
When you have found employment, make sure you have a supervisor who holds both a NJ license (for the Supervision Plan described above) and a CCC in SLP so that this first year of employment can serve as both your Internship (for your license) and as your Clinical Fellowship (for your CCCs).
When your CF is complete, submit your application to ASHA including all of the following:
Application
Application Fees
Transcripts (undergraduate and graduate)
Clinical Fellowship Report
Praxis scores (if not already submitted)
