NJ Temporary License
Revised May 2021
If you are not working in a school setting or with children classified by their local school systems, you must hold either a Temporary or Regular NJ License in Speech Language Pathology, issued by the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Committee, NJ Division of Consumer Affairs, Department of Law and Public Safety. If this work comprises your internship /supervisory year (or Clinical Fellow), you must hold a Temporary License.
The requirements for the Temporary license are:
A Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and
375 supervised clinical hours, preceded by 25 observation hours (total = 400).
This Temporary license allows you to work while you complete the additional requirements for Regular license (satisfactory completion of an Internship Year/ASHA Clinical Fellowship and the Praxis).
Before your Temporary license is awarded, your degree must be posted on a transcript. As part of the Temporary license application, you must complete and submit a Supervision plan (meaning you must have a supervisor in place before or at the time of applying for Temporary License), signed by you and your supervisor (who must hold a NJ license in Speech-Language Pathology). The Temporary license is not renewable and is effective while you complete your Internship year or for a maximum of 18 months.
